County Lawmakers Sending A Resolution Asking For State to Repeal Safe New York Act
February 25, 2013
BATH, NY - The Steuben County Legislature is sending a resolution to Albany, asking Governor Andrew Cuomo and state lawmakers to repeal the Safe New York Act.
"We asked for a total repeal of it," said Steuben County Republican Majority Leader Gary Swackhamer. "It's a terrible law, that affects a lot of gun owners and affects the 2nd ammendment, and they passed it with less than 10 hours of total (by both houses) review." The Hornell Republican also noted that the area's state lawmakers who were in attendance at this morning's meeting, agreed with the move to send the resolution, and even encouraged the county legislature.
County Clerk Brenda Mori reports that there were two no votes on resolution, Corning Democrats Hilda Lando and George Welch both voted against it. Hornell Democrat Randy Weaver was a yes-vote, and supports the resolution.
